Biography

Dr Jananie William is a Senior Lecturer in Actuarial Studies and Advisor to The Social Outcomes Lab. She has over 15 years of experience in both traditional and non-traditional areas of actuarial practice through industry and academic roles. Her previous roles were in senior leadership for general insurance pricing and as a consultant for general insurance reserving. She has transferred this expertise to her current roles as she implements modern actuarial methods in non-traditional areas of actuarial work.  

Jananie's research interests are in public health, public policy and human services with a focus on women's issues. Her current research projects include costing studies in maternal health, the lifetime health costs of women who experience domestic violence and gender disparities in retirement outcomes. She also teaches advanced actuarial courses including the Actuarial Control Cycle 2 and Advanced General Insurance. Her teaching excellence was recognised through the CBE Award for Teaching Excellence (Early Career) in 2018 and the Vice Chancellor's Award for Teaching Excellence (Early Career) in 2019. Prior to joining the university, Jananie worked in actuarial roles in the general insurance and investment advisory industry in Australia and the UK.
